Synopsis
Soukhoumi rive noire focuses on the fate of a small region forgotten by the world, the Republic of Abkhazia, and its capital, Soukhoumi. Nestling on the edge of the Caucasus, on the shores of the Black Sea, Abkhazia is a non-existent state, a self-proclaimed republic born of an absurd war against Georgia in 1992-1993. By recounting the stories of four people, exiles from Sukhumi and survivors in its ruins, this film aims to bring back to life the heyday of the Soviet Riviera and plunge us into the reality of a forgotten conflict. How do you live for ten years in a region that is neither at war nor at peace? This is the question we aim to answer, while understanding through these individual stories what exile, loss, forgetting and nostalgia for a time that will never return are all about…
