Synopsis
In the jungles of Congo’s Kivu region, Rwandan war hero Sergeant Xavier and young, inexperienced soldier Faustin are in enemy territory, fighting a blurred war. When the two men lose their battalion, they find themselves alone and destitute in the inextricable Congolese jungle, reputed to be the largest, densest and most hostile on the continent. Caught in the middle of raging battles all around them, where enemies and allies are indistinguishable, they have no choice but to sink into a green hell. In search of water and food, and always looking for a way out, they are exposed to omnipresent hostility. Alone, they have to face their own demons. A war film with an anti-militarist slant, The Mercy of the Jungle exposes the gaping wounds left by confrontation and questions the place of humanity in armed conflict.
