Synopsis

Over the past decade, we all remember a number of scandals (contaminated blood, BSE, foot-and-mouth disease, asbestos, glycol ethers, etc.). For decades, industrialists put their financial interests ahead of public health with impunity. In the wake of the sinking of the Erika, the probable toxicity of bitumen provides an opportunity to examine a public health problem that affects international industrial and economic interests. The film’s approach underpins the legitimacy of the public’s right to information and transparency, and uses the asbestos scandal as a basis for calling out industrialists and the heads of ministries, bodies and laboratories responsible for protecting workers affected by bitumen fumes.
